Start warm under cover: September–October.

Grow outside once conditions are warm: approximately November onward.

Ginger can be grown in Melton, but warmth is the limiting factor. Gardening Australia specifically notes that southern growers benefit from protected growing, and a recent Tasmanian example successfully used a greenhouse to create the required microclimate.
