Turmeric

Start under cover: September–October.

Move/grow outside: November onward.

Melton is considerably cooler than turmeric's natural climate. Start the rhizomes somewhere warm rather than waiting for outdoor soil to warm sufficiently. A large pot, greenhouse (this is best) or polytunnel gives much more reliable results.

Australian guidance recommends spring planting, with cooler areas starting rhizomes indoors; turmeric generally needs around 8–10 months to reach full maturity.
